North Devon Tours – Coastal Wonders & Hidden Villages

Clifftop Views & Coastal Footpaths – Explore the Wild North Devon Coast

Picture
Devon is quite unique. Two coastlines separated by two National Parks which dictate very different landscapes and wilderness across the county.
While Dartmoor occupies the middle and South of the county, Exmoor nestles in on the North coast. It spreads across both counties of Devon and Somerset which provides visitors to the area with a real mix of locational interest.
Also, further West along the coastline is an area of outstanding geological and natural wonder. A stretch of coast that leaves most whom visit speechless and with jaw left open. Hartland Quay and the South West Coastal Footpath heading West.
Not to mention the varied and many fishing villages that seem trapped in time gone by such as Clovelly, Lynmouth and Porlock Weir.
The area is a fantastic location that interests walkers and hikers of the cliff paths as well as folk who search out the definitive coastal views with the Atlantic rolling in below.
Dramatic geological folding of ancient rocks that seem other worldly, sweeping beaches viewed from high up on the coastal footpath as well as the quintessential fishing villages that nestle in the valley folds, protected from the storms that sometimes savage this coastline.

A North Devon, as well as North Somerset, Tour can include locations such as Hartland Quay, Spekes Mill Waterfalls, Hartland Lighthouse and Point as well as a visit to Clovelly, one of the UK's prettiest villages and, to this day, still privately owned by the local Lord of the Manor, The Right Honourable Sir John Rous and family. Further along the northern coast are the little Switzerland villages of Lynton and Lynmouth.
Named due to the chalet like property there that cling to the cliffs as if in the mountains of the Alps.
Exmoor National Park lies along the coast and provides iconic locations such as Valley of the Rocks which again is a natural geological feature that both puzzles and inspires visitors. A drift through Exmoor can also be included should logistics and timings allow as this National Park is an inspiring mix of both rural and expansive rolling landscape.

In all an area worthy of exploration and truly does warrant the journey time to the North coast of Devon. Ideal for those staying in central Devon or North Dartmoor hotels such as Hotel Endsleigh or Gidleigh Park as well as Boringdon Hall on western Dartmoor.
