Explore Cornwall – A Land of Legends, Cliffs & Hidden Coves

UNESCO Mining Heritage – Explore Cornwall’s Industrial Past

The Cornish peninsula boldly withstands the beating from the Atlantic Ocean, defiant, resilient and proud, just like the Celtic folk of old Kernow. So much so that the Cornish strongly believe they border England, not just Devon. Their land stands alone and is  another country, rather than county. Corn-Waylas, the other folk who are not English of the Corn land (corn taking its name from the trumpet like features of the peninsula).
This corner of England has hundreds of miles of stunning cliff top walks, the same in long sandy beaches and the some of the Worlds best preserved mining heritage, now a UNESCO site. Dramatically perched atop steep cliffs, these mine workings and ruins stand as monuments to the industry that shaped modern Cornwall's heritage and its firm place on the global stage of the Industrial Revolution.

Authors and artists alike have been inspired by the county, its rugged coast, the classic fishing villages and tales of pirates and smuggling run deep through the winding lanes inland from the sea.
Captain Ross Poldark courting Demelza, Doc Martin running from that pesky dog and even Game of Thrones battle scenes have all unfolded on Cornish beaches, its cliff paths and inside the many historic buildings within the county.
Set-jetting is big business in Cornwall with so many locations used in a lot of very popular TV and film productions.
A Poldark themed tour can include many of the locations the hit series was filmed at, as can a visit to Port Isaac, or rather Portwenn, where the "Doc will see you now...."
North and South Cornwall are very different due to the expanse of water they face.
A quieter, more sheltered South coast with its fishing villages, ports and busy market towns has character, charm and a softer feel. The rugged North coast that withstands the ravages of ocean waves in the winter has the rocky granite cliffs, majestic lighthouses and ports where pirates lurk in classic sailors inns of old.
There is so much to see in Cornwall it is a good idea to plan a few days to explore it well. If a day is all you can dedicate, the far West Penwith area is a must. *logistics dependent as West Cornwall is a fair distance from Devon and Dorset.
Lands End, Cape Cornwall, UNESCO tin mine sites, beautiful medieval fishing ports, grand island castle retreats and the freshest seafood in the UK. Locations including the incredible Minack Theatre, stunning St Michaels Mount, beautiful Porthcurno, striking Botallack mines and the quintessential Mousehole harbour are key visits on such a trip. Cornwall is a world circuit must see.
