"With Mark Lakeman as our guide, we traversed the Dartmoor National Park on a day which exemplified the wind-swept, barren yet elegiac landscape surrounding Postbridge, our gateway to the moors and highlands. Yet despite this haunting vista, the people here in Dartmoor were relentlessly cheerful and most affable, ceaselessly smiling, the food sumptuous, and the British ale most piquant and refreshing.
